Jil Sander Fall 24 Ready-To-Wear

During Milan Fashion Week, Luke and Lucie Meier, the owners of Jil Sander, presented their latest collection. The show, which took place in a circular room decorated in sage green and midnight blue, had a futuristic vibe. To enhance the otherworldly atmosphere, Mk.Gee provided the music for the models as they walked down the runway. The combination of the Meiers' designs and Mk.Gee's stylings resulted in a captivating and unique experience for the audience.

The collection features a variety of colors, such as scarlet, tan, emerald, and pearl. Each color contrasts beautifully against the sage and midnight hues of the room, allowing for the intricate details of each garment to stand out. The clothing displays an element of color blocking, with an impressive showcase of tailoring that gives the impression of what fashion on Mars would look like. The alien silhouettes, with their rounded and broad shoulders, resemble business attire, but with a unique twist. Among the familiar shapes and lines, you will find reworked designs, such as quilted trench coats that look more like cloaks. The collection also includes leather two-piece suits paired with fur coats draped over the model's shoulders, upscaled lace-like fabrics, disco ball fringe scarves, and shimmering earrings. All of these elements are combined in a way that is not overwhelming or off-putting.

Luke Meier described sage as a healing and protective color to WWD, which was a small but crucial detail that helped the show feel more like a tour through this collection's world. The show had a range of garments, from elevated fashion pieces to ready-to-wear attire. The fabrics and materials were carefully chosen, including Tweed, puffers, knit, and mohair, which all blended well with each other. Any star like Kelela, FKA Twigs, or Teezo Touchdown could wear any piece from this collection due to its diversity. The collection had something for everyone, including business attire, cozy and easy-to-layer clothes, glamorous red carpet-ready ensembles, and highly structural garments paired with thneed-esc purses.

Jil Sander is a label known for its space colony look, but this collection was more than that. From the environment it took place in, to the matching headwear and gelled hair of the models, every detail was thoughtfully considered. This collection felt like it was made for a movie or video game, with every stitch and fold of fabric being like a masterclass on character design.

Silhouette

The outfit is a peacoat with a cape, paired with a black back and mustard yellow boots. The cape/shawl adds character to the outfit, while the neck is designed like a turtleneck with subtle detailing on the shoulders. The color palette is understated, which makes all the small details more prominent. Overall, the shape of the outfit is what makes it sell.

Color Blocking

The bags in this collection are exceptionally impressive. They are made of various materials and come in various styles. The design similar to this one does a fantastic job of highlighting the bags and the "cloaks". Even though it is grey, it still stands out against the pink. When paired with the red shoes and black hat, it creates a very coherent and eye-catching piece. The simple shapes and minimal color palette provide an effective way to showcase each item of clothing.

Layering

This outfit is composed of a head-to-toe white ensemble with a minimal color palette, where the only other colors are white and brown. The focus of the garment is on how the pieces are layered on top of one another. The cropped top sits on top of what appears to be a button-up, and a skirt that matches the top. Other than the middle section, this look gives a futuristic twist on the classic Chanel look with its distressed tweed-like material. The sheer sock and sandal combination add the perfect finishing touch.

The futuristic style of Luke and Lucie's designs is achieved by playing with proportions, bell shapes, rectangles, and sharp and round edges. The collection also features color blocking, various styles, and a wide range of fabrics from soft to rubbery. It stands out from anything else shown at Milan Fashion Week, with nothing quite like it.

The craftsmanship and boundary-pushing of Jil Sander sets it apart, culminating in a cohesive yet bizarre peek into the fashion trends of another planet.
