A’ja: How did you grow on social media, and what do you enjoy most about being an influencer?

Ash: I first built my audience on social media by sharing HBCU-themed GRWMs during my sophomore year at *The* Alabama State University. I started documenting my getting-ready process for parties, Fried Chicken Wednesdays, and more, and it quickly resonated with my audience. What I love most about being an influencer is the opportunity to connect with so many amazing, like-minded women!

A’ja: Recently, many creators were concerned about the potential TikTok ban, which served as a wake-up call for influencers to avoid relying on just one platform. Did the recent temporary TikTok ban influence you to expand your content to other platforms or consider investing in starting your own business?

Ash: When I first heard about the potential TikTok ban, I was terrified. TikTok is my largest platform, and I worried that I wouldn’t be able to grow elsewhere. However, I decided to start posting on YouTube Shorts and quickly built a strong community there. The situation also motivated me to launch my own hair company, The Princess Tresses LLC. While the TikTok ban was a scary thought, it ultimately pushed me to expand my brand and explore new opportunities!

A’ja: Coming from Atlanta and moving to Alabama for college, what differences have you noticed between the two that make you prefer one over the other? Also, Do you think where you live impacts your content, networking opportunities, or overall growth as a creator?

Ash: One of the biggest adjustments I faced when moving from Atlanta to Alabama was adapting to life in a smaller city. The food options, entertainment, and events are definitely more limited compared to what I was used to. But surprisingly, I’ve grown to appreciate the slower pace—sometimes I even prefer it over Atlanta! “That being said, living in a smaller city does impact my networking opportunities and content. I see creators in bigger cities attending brand events and thriving in larger influencer communities, and I wish Alabama had more of that. But I remind myself that this is just a temporary chapter, and eventually, I’ll move to a city with even more opportunities to grow.

A’ja: How do you plan to expand your content in the near future to reach a wider audience?

Ash: I plan to expand my content by showcasing more of my personality. While my social media pages have a polished, professional feel—which has led to amazing opportunities—I know I have so much more to offer beyond a curated aesthetic. I’m funny, a little spontaneous, and super relatable, just navigating life as a 22-year-old college student with a passion for all things beauty. It’s time to bring more of me into my content!

A’ja: With over 100K followers on TikTok, how do you stay relatable and connected to your supporters through your content? And what is the overall message you want to convey as a creator?

Ash: Staying connected to my audience is so important to me. I share as much of my personal life as I’m comfortable with—whether it’s my experience in a wlw relationship, navigating life in my 20s, or the ups and downs of being a content creator—because I know so many people can relate. At the end of the day, my message is simple: be yourself. Embrace who you are, find your own path, and strive to be the best version of you—because that’s exactly what I’m doing!

A’ja: Outside of content creation, are there any other interests or passions you’d like to pursue?

Ash: Outside of content creation, my biggest passion is entrepreneurship. I’ve had that hustle mentality since elementary school—back when I was selling silly bands! Lol. My love for the beauty industry led me to start The Princess Tresses, and my goal is to be the go-to source for the best, most affordable bundles. I’m so passionate about it, but I’m still figuring out if I want to fully commit until after I finish undergrad. Either way, it’s on the way!

A’ja: In what ways do you plan to challenge yourself more this year compared to last year?

Ash: This year, I’m committed to challenging myself more than ever. Right now, my main focus is prioritizing my health—working out, eating clean, and truly taking care of my body. I’m excited to see how much I grow and evolve, and I know I’ll continue to surprise myself every step of the way. It’s all about becoming the best version of me!
