KidSuper’s Spring 2025 Menswear Collection Review

KidSuper’s “It’s All Up in the Air” collaboration with Cirque Du Soleil fascinated the audience with acrobatic performances and looks resembling clowns, puppets, and other circus characters. Designer Colm Dillane orchestrated an amazing show in which models were controlled by giant paper-mache hands from the sky, meant to mimic puppeteers. This reminded viewers that fashion is more than a display of clothing but an expression of artistry.

All looks in the show correlated with the theme, and there were various styles and tailoring. The coherency was achieved through similar sketches, techniques, and colors. For instance, Trompe L’Oeil was used to make the first four models appear as puppets. But despite similar aspects, the variation in styles and accessories allowed the majority of looks to be their own spectacle.

The intricate detailing of the eight looks, paired with the model's facial gestures and the commanding hands from the sky make for a notable moment in the show. The look features an H-line suit in contrasting greys and stripes, preventing it from appearing dull and setting it apart from the other brightly colored looks. The detail that most maintained the theme is the layered lace and organza ribbon jabot that complement the lace hems of the suit to mimic clown ruffles.

While the eighth look is not as diverse in color, many of the others, such as the 11th and 28th looks, are. Both feature colorful and outré accessories—a bouquet and a clown mask—and include unique art such as paintings of faces and embroidered acrobats on the coat and shirt.

The final three looks were the most momentous of the show, seeing as two included a man on stilts and a headless giant. However impressive as those were, the 33rd and last look’s abstract makeup and silhouette make it unlike any other of this collection. It is made completely of tan pleated chiffon and cream-colored clown ruffles that begin underneath the model’s eyes. The dress’s inconsistent widths create an irregular silhouette that adds to the bizarreness of the circus-themed look and show.

Many enjoyed KidSuper’s creative approach to this year's Paris Fashion Week. Excitingly, Dillane was able to draw similarities between the art of fashion and the circus, traveling performers with the intent to please audiences with exciting and never-before-seen shows.

The eccentric accessories of the collection are highly notable. Bags made to resemble cleaning tea kettles, biker helmets, and even cleaning products were sported throughout the show.
