Dsquared2’s Spring 2025 Ready-To-Wear Collection Review

DSQUARED2 debuted its Spring/Summer 2025 collection this Milan Fashion Week. It showcased theatrics and provocateurs, including bold blends, sheer fabrics, and taboo elements. Designers Dean and Dan Caten took the audience on an exciting journey into the world of kink, blending subversive elements with their signature playful aesthetic.

The collection, inspired by the ‘80s underground culture of Caten’s humble beginnings, invites men to embrace their inner rebel. The show, named #D2HEAT, opens to a blood-red runway and stage with velvet curtains and seats. From the start, we know this show is about to be naughty and fun. Opening with a dramatic performance, they set the tone for this daring collection. In the perfect style of the film “Magic Mike,” the show begins with five scantily clad male dancers, illuminated by red lights. This opening sequence concludes strikingly. They ascend as they hit the final poses, and the first model appears and stuns the runway.

This spectacle hinted at the themes of the collection, which drew heavily from underground subcultures, particularly kink and BDSM. The designers skillfully integrated these influences into high-fashion pieces, presenting a fusion of elegance and eroticism. The pieces in this collection make you want to undress, show off your body, and revel in pleasure. It featured a variety of innovative materials, including pastel-colored PVC, sheer fabrics, and leather.

Key pieces included trench coats, hot pants, and harnesses worn under sheer shirts, which added a layer of provocative sophistication. Rihanna’s S&M comes to mind, as she sings, “Stick and stones may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me!”

Thematically, the collection challenged traditional notions of fashion by bringing kink culture into the mainstream. There is a commitment to celebrating self-expression and breaking societal taboos. This bold approach resonated with the current fashion climate, where inclusivity and individuality are increasingly valued.

DSQUARED2’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection not only showcased the designers’ creative vision but also sparked conversations about the evolving landscape of fashion culture. By embracing and normalizing elements from subversive subcultures, the Catens have contributed to a broader acceptance of diverse expressions of sexuality and identity in fashion. This collection marks a significant step in the brand’s evolution, reaffirming DSQUARED2’s reputation for innovation and audacity in the fashion world.
