A’ja: You currently have over 50,000 followers on TikTok. What specifically about your content do you think contributed to gaining such a large following?

MacKenzy: I believe authenticity and relatability have been the key drivers of my growth. My content in the beauty and fashion niche reflects my personal style and experiences, which resonate with my audience. I also pay attention to trends and make them my own, ensuring that my posts feel fresh and engaging while staying true to my personality.

A’ja: What is your favorite and least favorite aspect of content creation?

MacKenzy: My favorite aspect is the creativity and connection. I love having the freedom to experiment with new ideas and seeing my content inspire or help someone. The least favorite aspect is the pressure to be consistent while navigating the algorithm changes, which can sometimes feel draining. Balancing creativity with analytics is challenging but necessary.

A’ja: It can seem like you have to share a lot of your life on social media as an influencer. How do you maintain a compromise with the need to gather “content” and the desire to enjoy things for yourself? And aside from what you do post, what are some things you enjoy doing that you may not share much about on social media?

MacKenzy: I’ve learned to set boundaries and be intentional about what I share. While I aim to be authentic, I ensure that I keep parts of my life private to maintain balance and authenticity. For instance, I enjoy reading, I’m a musical theatre and dance teacher, and I volunteer for community events, but I don’t always feel the need to share every detail of those moments because those are personal.

A’ja: How would you like to encourage other young Black women who aspire to create content?

MacKenzy: I want to remind them that their voice and perspective matter. The content creation space needs more diverse stories, and their uniqueness is their greatest asset. I’d encourage them to invest in their craft, whether by learning new skills or building a supportive community, and to always know their worth when working with brands.

A’ja: I’ve noticed that you occasionally dabble in modeling; would you like to explore that more?

MacKenzy: Absolutely! Modeling has been a fun way to express myself and step outside my comfort zone. I’d love to explore it further, especially if it aligns with my brand and interests in beauty and fashion. Collaborating with more black owned brands and creatives would be a great opportunity.

A’ja: Do you plan to branch out to try different content on different social media platforms? And do you also ever want to pursue a career outside of social media?

MacKenzy: Yes, I’m always looking for ways to expand and evolve. Platforms like YouTube and Twitch are on my radar for more long-form content. Outside of social media, I’m passionate about dance education, nonprofit leadership, and entrepreneurship, so I see myself continuing to balance both worlds.

A’ja: What are some goals you hope to fulfill in 2025?

MacKenzy: In 2025, I’d like to grow my platform to over 100,000 followers on TikTok, secure partnerships with more beauty and lifestyle brands, and launch a content series or project that combines my passions for dance and creativity. I also hope to further develop and explore opportunities to teach and mentor in the arts.
